Custom Academic Coaching offers tailored, dynamic, and research-informed coaching to help young people develop purpose and succeed in the academic realm and beyond.
As our name implies, Custom Academic Coaching provides one-on-one services so that we may tailor lessons to each student’s needs.
We specialize in helping students prepare for and and gain admission to American and British undergraduate and graduate programs at a variety of institutions, including the Ivy League and other top-tier schools, liberal arts colleges, technical colleges, and art schools.
Our services include academic tutoring, writing instruction, academic enrichment, college preparedness, and admissions counseling.
Our Founder & CEO
Nena Malhotra is the Founder and Head Instructor of Custom Academic Coaching. She has rendered over 15,000 hours of one-on-one academic coaching with students across the globe.
Nena is an expert in helping students prepare for and gain admission to American and British undergraduate and graduate programs at a variety of institutions, including the Ivy League and other top-tier schools, liberal arts colleges, technical colleges, and art schools. Since founding CAC in 2014, 96% of the college and graduate school applicants she has worked with have been admitted to one or more of their top three choices.
Before founding Custom Academic Coaching, Nena attended the University of Exeter Law School in the United Kingdom, where she was First Year Moot Court Champion, before transferring to Loyola Law School. She has interned at the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, the Los Angeles Legal Aid Foundation, and Public Counsel.
Nena earned her bachelor’s degree in English & Comparative Literary Studies and a minor in Art History & The Visual Arts from Occidental College. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees at the Pasadena Waldorf School.

All of our college and graduate school applicants work directly with Nena Malhotra, who has 13 years of experience as an admissions counselor and 16 years of experience as a private academic instructor.
Our tutoring students work one-on-one with tutors selected for their combination of subject expertise, experience, quality of instruction, and character. Each of our tutors has a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus a minimum of two years teaching or tutoring the subject(s) they coach.
