Writing I: Grammar & Mechanics 101

Over ten 60-minute one-on-one sessions, students will learn practical American English grammar and syntax rules, exceptions, and conventions to help them write clearly and correctly. All courses are tailored to reflect each student’s level, goals, and interests.

Writing II: Synthesis & Exposition

Over ten 60-minute one-on-one sessions, students will learn how to extract, synthesize, and reformulate information from various texts. In the process, they will practice outlining texts, expressing ideas in their own words, citing sources, and formulating their own opinions. All courses are tailored to reflect each student’s level, goals, and interests.

Writing III: Persuasive Writing

Over twelve 60-minute one-on-one sessions, students will learn to evaluate written arguments, as well as construct positions of their own backed by credible sources and strong analysis. Students will practice identifying useful and credible sources, outlining essays, identifying logical fallacies, expressing ideas in their own words, and citing sources. All courses are tailored to reflect each student’s level, goals, and interests.

Writing IV: Literary Analysis

Over twelve 60-minute sessions, students will study the many ways in which writers of fiction and creative nonfiction construct meaning, and learn to respond with their own critical analyses. Students will study literary devices, learn to outline essays, and practice proper citation. All courses are tailored to reflect each student’s level, goals, and interests.

Writing V: Poetic Analysis

Over twelve 60-minute sessions, students will study the many ways in which poets bring us closer to their experience of the world through suggestion, and learn to respond with their own critical analyses. Students will study literary/poetic devices and scansion; learn to outline essays; and practice proper citation. All courses are tailored to reflect each student’s level, goals, and interests.

Writing VI: Research Writing

Over fifteen 60-minute sessions, students will learn the goals and elements of research writing by identifying a topics, formulating a research question, creating a bibliography, synthesizing, and evaluating information; and completing a research paper. All courses are tailored to reflect each student’s level, goals, and interests.
